Performing The Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack in its entirety, Danny Elfman will once again provide the singing voice for the Pumpkin King, Jack Skellington. Elfman will be joined by a cast of singers and guests as the film is presented. Conductor John Mauceri, the founding director of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, will conduct a full orchestra and choir as they perform the film’s score and sing live-to-picture. Though Elfman offering snippets from “Nightmare” was always a highlight during his prior Burton Halloween offerings, not since his days fronting Oingo Boingo has he really dug this deep into a live performance.
Attendees will also find they’ve crossed over into the stop motion animated film in several ways. Organizers said that the Bowl will be transformed into Halloween Town — one of the nightmarish worlds from the original 1993 movie — with pre-show activities that will include an audience-participation costume contest.
The Halloween concert will mark a return to the Bowl for Mauceri, who was the longtime head conductor of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. The upcoming “Nightmare” concert will also include other guest singers who will perform other songs from the movie, but no additional names have been announced.
