Kanye West’s 808s and Heartbreak at Hollywood Bowl 8/25/2016 & 8/26/2016
Kanye West will revisit his 808s & Heartbreak this month when the rapper takes to the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles to perform his groundbreaking 2008 album. A ticket pre-sale for the concert took place on August 31st, general on-sale followed on September 4th. Get your tickets before they sell out!
While some 808s & Heartbreak tracks remain staples at West’s concerts seven years after its release – “Heartless,” “Say You Will,” “Coldest Winter” and, to a less frequent degree, “Love Lockdown” – most of the album’s cuts have vanished from West’s live repertoire. Opener “Welcome to Heartbreak” and “RoboCop” both haven’t been performed since 2009, while “Street Lights,” “Paranoid” and “Amazing” were each played live less than 10 times before getting axed. According to setlist.fm, 808s’ “Bad News” has never even been performed live by West.
“808s & Heartbreak was Kanye West’s fourth album, and it was a base breaker as far as fans were concerned. The album was formed off the back of an extremely difficult time for West; his mother died and his relationship with on-and-off again girlfriend/fiancé Alexis Phifer finally ended for good. Emotionally drained and feeling somewhat lost, Kanye dealt with his pain by channelling it into a sonically stripped-down album, one dominated by his use of the 808 drum machine and Auto-Tune.”
